Can't check disk on Sansa Clip Zip

(1/1)

p-himik:
My player has been lying unused for about half a year and yesterday I decided to use it again.
But it all started not so well - it refused to boot into Rockbox. I've tried a few times to shut it down and boot again and eventually it actually booted (although the boot time was about 2-3 minutes without SDcard).

I thought that it wasn't anything good, so I decided to check the disk for errors. And all my attempts to mount it under Windows have failed.
I switched to Linux, and there I was able to mount the disk only from OF. I couldn't delete any files though - any attempt to alter files led to remounting the disk as ro. Also fdisk reported that the disk had four partitions with sizes far exceeding 3.7GB.

I replugged the shutted down player into USB while holding select button. Using fdisk I created a new partition table with one partition for the whole disk. I then proceeded with "mkdosfs -F 32 -I /dev/sde1", but it failed with the following in dmesg:

At this point I have no idea how to proceed. Can anyone give me any hint?

saratoga:
Does the format feature in the sandisk firmware work?

p-himik:
So OF appears to be working properly, including formatting. But something completely random is going on. Sometimes Windows/Linux see the device and are able to access its drive, sometimes not - unknown device, or inaccessible disk, or just an application that tries to access the disk just hangs up. I'm using the shortest USB cable I have (about 20cm) and plugging it in the back of my PC.
During random successes in accessing the drive, I was able to also format it in Windows, but it still changes nothing - very infrequent successes with the majority of failures and hangs whenever I try to plug the player into PC with Windows or laptop with Linux.
