Installation / Removal > Rockbox Utility
Repaired an iPod (6.5G) with old version Rockbox / emCORE on it. Now what?
MightyBora:
Hey guys,
It's my first time here, I was given a free iPod 6.5g with a broken screen. Now after repairing the screen, it looks like the previous user had installed Rockbox on this. The 'problem' is that it is an old version of Rockbox (644b83e - 120701) and of emCORE (v0.2.3 r859). The old version of emCORE means that there is nothing left of the original firmware. I wasn't expecting to have Rockbox on there and I'm not sure I need it.
Since it's also my first iPod ever, I would like to see what the default software is like. In the future I might want to play around with Rockbox. I was just wondering what the easiest way is. Also keeping in mind that I would like to keep the door open for future use of Rockbox.
I read on the forum that there is a dual boot method in development. But didn't find much other information about this so far.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Simon.

You can find uninstallation directions for emcore on the freemyipod website:
http://www.freemyipod.org/wiki/EmCORE_Uninstallation
MightyBora:
Thanks for that link.
Could you point me to more documentation of the dual boot method?
saratoga:
I think the other thread you've posted in is the only documentation.
MightyBora:
Okay, I'll guess I'll wait a bit until a final release is finished :)
On a side note: It looks like my iPod is not recognized by my computer? When I plug it in the usb, I get a USB symbol on the ipod screen. But nothing happens on my pc? I don't have any itunes installed, maybe there is some driver missing? Also when I am charging the ipod with a wall charger the same USB symbol is also showing on the screen.
