Sansa Clip Plus Rockbox doesnt boot
« on: February 12, 2016, 03:16:21 AM »
Hello guys..

I tried to find the ansqer for this question in the forum and on search engines and, however it might seem a common thing to happen, I couldnt find the answer for it.
Basically, I install Rockbox Utility (on mac) and I followed all the instructions, it seems that it is installed on the device but still when I turn it on there is no Rockbox on the mp3.

Can someone help me please?

Hello Mvp8

did you follow the steps described in the manual: http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansaclipplus.pdf

Don't know if the issue is related to the mac, but the operating system running rockbox utility shouldn't matter.

I did mate... Thats why I dont understand!
The device still functions well and the Rockbox Utility considers the Rockbox installed!! There is no error messages no awkward issues, which leaves me a bit confused...

What you would suggest?

All right!!

So basicaly I download the rockbox utility, chose my device (Sansa Clip Plus) marked all the options, themes, fonts, bootloader and so on and I clicked Install. It asked me the firmware, which I dowloaded from Sansa Page, the one 1.02.18. And I guess the rest the program does it by itself...

Anything I missed?

This time I tried to do it Manually but I got blocked on the point:

Run mkamsboot, passing the name of the OF and bootloader files that you down- loaded, in addition to a name for the output file.
Code
./mkamsboot clppa.bin bootloader-clipplus.sansa patched.bin

When I run mkamsboot it opens a terminal page with this on it:

Last login: Sat Feb 13 14:50:25 on ttys000
/Volumes/mkamsboot-dmg/mkamsboot-mac ; exit;
Macs-MacBook:~ mac$ /Volumes/mkamsboot-dmg/mkamsboot-mac ; exit;
mkamsboot Version 1.5
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions.  There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Usage: mkamsboot <firmware file> <boot file> <output file>
logout

[Process completed]

...and I cant even write the code! This mac is not mine so I dont even know how to use it well.
Can you help me?

Did you use autodetection? if not, why?

Please check the mountpoint setting in Rockbox Utility. Perform the installation again, and if it still doesn't work go to Help / Troubleshoot / System Trace. Paste the contents of that window to pastebin (or upload it as a file to some location where others can check it).

Because that's not how you run a command line program. You would need to do that from Terminal. However, I'm pretty confident that you won't need to use manual installation. The most common error on installation is the mountpoint being wrong, and I suspect that to be the case here as well.

(If the mountpoint is wrong Rockbox Utility will write the files to the wrong drive. This isn't problematic since those are just some additional files, but it obviously won't work as expected)

Is the mount point you picked your device? Is it writable?

Not sure i understand this reply?  That error message means the output location you chose isn't writeable.

Edit:  There is also an install log you can generate in rockbox utility.  Posting that (use pastebin.com if its long or it might get cut off) might help someone spot an error.

So my question still stands: why didn't you use autodetection? Also, please post the System Trace log so others can see it. It contains useful information that help telling why you get the errors you're seeing.

And I'm still suspecting the mountpoint to be wrong -- just changing it doesn't help, it needs to be set to the correct one :)

I did use autodetection... and then I chose the mounting point manually because the autodetection didnt do it!!
There is anyway I can reset everything and start over?

What is this System Trace and where can I get to it?

Thank you for your help guys/girls :)

Oh man... This thing is becoming anoying, God!!

I did everything all over again, this time another error message came: Not enough disk space! Aborting - which is ridiculous once there is plenty of it -_-

Brother, I still cant find the Help / Troubleshoot / System Trace!! Is that on the rockbox utility, on mac, on the forum... Please be more specific!!

Thank you a lot for you patience, Im sure it is something very simple -_-
