Themes that will work on Classic 6G/7G
« on: February 07, 2016, 12:45:20 PM »
Can anyone point me to themes that will work on the experimental builds? I'd like to see if I can reverse-engineer them and get my own theme to work.  I tried a few that were labeled as "working with 3.13," and had no luck. I downloaded the simulator, and it seems to be working just like my 6.5G classic,  the default "Cabbie" theme works and the others don't, so I appear to have a good test platform there.  Thank you.

What do you mean by 'experimental builds'?

You mean the builds for ipod classic?

Which themes are you finding don't work?  Pretty much all the ipod video/classic themes work fine for me [on both a 5th gen and a "7.5" gen].  A couple have glitches due to changes in rockbox behaviour, but I think 99% of them work OK.
(and in what way does the not working manifest itself?)

By experimental builds, I mean the ones for the ipod classic 6/7 G. I installed it last week on a 7G with a lot of hand-holding from Saint.

By "Not work", I mean that the "While Playing" screen shows the generic grey-and-black fallback display. One of these nonfunctioning themes is http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?themeid=2295&target=ipodvideo  . Also, my old customized theme that I was using on a 5.5G does the same thing, it the generic grey-and-white display for the wps.

Well, I just downloaded that theme and tried it in a clean install of the simulator and it works fine for me.

Have you installed the basic font pack?  One thing that would cause what you say is if you have a lot of missing fonts (that one you list doesn't include its own fonts, as it uses the ones from the basic font pack, so if you haven't got that installed I guess it might not work)

If you installed rockbox with the install utility it should have had a checkbox to install the basic font pack.

Fonts, baby, fonts! That did the trick. I overlooked the need to install the fonts in my manual "unzip and copy over" installation technique Three cheers for automation.

Thank you very much, Frankenpod, I can now enjoy my themes in all their "Large Type" glory for my poor old eyes. I had manually copied over the specific font called out in my custom theme, but obviously there were other font dependencies that I had missed.
