iPod Classic 6G Load To Ram disappeared?
(1/1)
RockBoxNewB:
Hi guys,
I know this question has been asked before, but a forum message popping up advised me to start a new topic as nothing has happened in the old one for quite a long time. Soooo:
I understand that my other thread about recent development builds for the iPod Classic 160GB (6G) might be too difficult to solve, but this should be an easy-ish one. What I have also noticed since I updated the build installed on my 'Pod, is that the database "LOAD TO RAM" option has disappeared from the menus. Has there been any news since the last posts in the other thread from 2014/2015? It's definitely true that without this option, database access takes much longer and battery life is reduced as well.
Thanks in advance,
RBNB

I think that feature was removed during the file system rework. Without reimplementing it to work with the new file system, it will not be available.

Okay, good to know that this is still the latest information on the subject. Is there any way to find out which build last had that function included, so I can go back to that build on my iPod?
And as a practical consequence of that: I have always used RB Utility to install the latest builds. From what I read in the other post, it is possible to "downgrade" to older builds manually. How can I do that? Will I lose my settings in the process?
Thanks in advance,
RBNB

Yes. This is possible.

You'll probably kick yourself when you find out the process, well...maybe. All "upgrading Rockbox" actually is, even with Rockbox Utility, is extracting an archive to the root of the player and allowing it to overwrite the files.

No.

Why yes, yes I can [1].

There is a queue.

Hi [Saint],
I guess I'll wait for my turn in the queue then, as those babies are basically some guaranteed prodigies :-D
After I finally found out how to download from that filehoster without installing some oddball PUP *laugh*, everything worked great. I was able to install the build you supplied, LOAD TO RAM re-appeared and my settings remained untouched, including my holy database. I certainly owe you million thanks for that!
One problem, however, has persisted. Ever since I updated to the more recent build using RB utility, USB recognition has become a pain in the a**. I have been using my iPod in combination with a Win XP desktop PC. I had always had some occasional problems with the iPod not getting recognized, the device freezing and requiring a hard reboot... but now. it does not work anymore AT ALL. My computer shows an "iPOD 160GB" drive - but empty. I cannot access the contents of the player, neither can I move new music to it. The only way to do this is by connecting the iPod to my Win 7 Laptop. Does anybody happen to know whether major changes to USB connectivity were made in recent builds of the iPod 160 GB (6G)?
EDIT: it looks like the problem I described in the other thread, the database update not working/taking endlessly and draining the battery by around 20% in the process, also persists. [Saint], could it solve the problem if I tried to install the build I used to have on my iPod before the update (I think I got it around May 2014)?
Again, thanks for your awesome support,
RBNB
