Sansa Clip+...Screen is black using Rockbox, but fine when booted into Sansa FW
RoyalScam:
Newbie here, and I've searched to no avail.
I've had my Clip+ for almost 5 years, no issues. I needed to play some AAC music files, so I installed Rockbox (latest stable version). All was well for a few days. Then, I decided to read the manual and customize some settings. When I went into the Backlight settings and moved the time from "15 sec" to the max, all of a sudden the screen went blank/black. The Clip+ did not power off (music was still playing), but I could not see what/if I was navigating.
Now, when I boot into the Sansa firmware, the screen is fine and everything works normally. As soon as I restart into Rockbox, I see the splash screen, then all goes blank/black again.
I've tried...
* Uninstalling the Rockbox software/bootloader via the Rockbox Utility for Mac (wouldn't uninstall, even though I installed via the utility)
* Reinstalling the original Sansa firmware binary, in order to uninstall Rockbox (that was successful)
* Reinstalling Rockbox via the Rockbox Utility for Mac
Still the same result: Rockbox = black/blank screen after the splash screen, Sansa = normal screen operation.
I'd like to continue using Rockbox and experimenting more with it, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Worst case, I can ditch Rockbox and go back to using the Sansa firmware (with no AAC functionality...bummer...)

I suspect you moved the backlight setting one too far and ended up on "off".
Reinstalling rockbox may not necessarily clear the config file, so that setting is probably still there. Connect the player to a computer, and look for the .rockbox/config.cfg file. Either remove it or open it with a text editor and remove the offending line.

Bless you!!! Will try that when I get home later, thanks. I'm pretty sure I went one past max, so that's probably it.
"Off" is kind of a ridiculous setting, IMO...at the very least there should be some sort of prompt that comes up before it activates, since there's no easy way to get it back.

A lot of devices have a readable screen without the backlight, which is why that setting exists. I agree it would be better to go through and individually enable it for devices where it makes sense though.

Just a suggestion...not a complaint. I was digging Rockbox until that freakout occurred. Thanks for your efforts!
