Don't SSDs (in particular) reserve/hide a bit of space for reallocating sectors that go bad? Though, then again, I guess they normally allow for that in the stated capacity, hence saying 120Gb rather than 128Gb in the first place?
Pity the Gib term never caught on - it seems like people have been writing puzzled letters to computer magazine help pages over the issue since long before the web existed ("why is my hard drive smaller than it should be?").
