Playlist flashes past momentarily and then disappears
(1/1)
Keeveler:
Hi
I'm a NEWBIE with a 'begin' Post, so I hope you'll forgive me first.
My problem is Playlists not working on my Nano 1st Gen 2GB
I've followed all the instructions about converting an iTunes playlist to M3U's which I did on Switch converter as I'm on an iMac, and especially to avoid iTunes' encrypting export feature.
. . . Also found what I thought was a good tip to auto-number the tracks in Mac's 'Automator' thinking that 001 would tell Rockbox to play sequentially. Placed this playlist file in the root of the Nano as recommended, and checked settings so that e.g. View ALL files was on, and then . . and then . . . well . . . . NOTHING !!! -The WPS just flashed and disappeared.
I've also read up as much as I can about Playlist Paths and added the forward slashes before and after the Folder Name and before each track, and even tried prefacing the tracks with the Folder Name with a forward slash between.
Obviously I'm missing something, but I frankly don't know what ? ? ?
Would be very appreciated if anybody out there can fill in the gap ? ? ?
Thanks . . .

Open the m3u file in a text editor and copy a portion of it here so that people can see what is in it.

. . . Firstly, thanks so much for such a quick reply, also I think I may have possibly figured out this problem.
If I'm correct; the .m3u music file once drawn through 'Open' in the text editor programme it's file content is therefore then displayed in legible text, and on selecting each line in the player, albeit in a new format, it therefore still plays that song.
Here is a sample of how I've edited this text in Mac's TextEdit to try and form a playlist, and you can kindly tell me if this is indeed correct?
/Music/005 - The Love I Lost Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes.m3u
/Music/006 - Archie Bell & the Drells - The Soul City Walk.m3u
/Music/007 - This Is My Song Petula Clark.m3u
/Music/008 - Uptown Funk Mark Ronson (feat. Bruno Mars).m3u
Also, as mentioned I used Switch Sound Converter Plus for Mac, and although it did convert correctly from .mp3 and .mp4a into .m3u, it still did not automatically format correctly for Rockbox and no doubt the player could only first read a small segment, secondly hit a complete cul-de-sac, and then only flash past the WPS.
So before this gets too longwinded, if this IS the answer -well it's said that the world was created in 7 days, but I'm now a bit unsure, because my playlists of just 750 songs alone are gonna take a bit longer.
The question is whether there is any auto-template software out there for Mac users to produce these formats before the care home tells us to turn it down out of respect for the other residents?
I look forward to any further reply -
Thanks meanwhile . . .

If your playlist points to other m3u files rather than actual music then that is obviously not going to work. It needs to point to actual music files on the iPod.
Also, just because we haven't bothered to disable the font color option in the forum software doesn't mean you should try to make your posts harder to read ;)

I understand that, yes, we do offer the ability to format text in forum posts, and you seem to enjoy doing so.
But may I kindly and respectfully ask you to please not do so? It makes it needlessly difficult to read, and there is no clear reasoning for it.
To address the topic at hand, it is infinitely easier to create playlists on the device itself than it is to rely on some form of software not screwing it up.
All playback in Rockbox is playlist based, absolutely all of it, if you are playing a file you are doing so via a playlist - whether it be consciously or not - and you can save and edit the playlist in a live or non-live fashion on the device very trivially.
Please consult the Working with Playlists setion of our fine user manual for details on this topic.
Thank you,
