Problem with building database and file corruption

Hello-

I had a wonderful experience with a 128 GB SD card in a iPod 5.5 (video).
However, when I upgraded to a 256 GB SD card, I started having some issues.

The database would never fully built as the files discovered would number in the 300,000 or so.
It would eventually error out and the battery would be near dead.

I noticed that when I connect it to my computer with the RockBox OS, there would be corrupted files.
When it is plugged in while in the iPod OS, I can delete these files, but they would reappear when I switch back to RockBox.




I tried searching through the forums for a similar issue but most of the threads seem unanswered or unresolved.

It sounds like there is some compatibility problem with the SD card, the adapter you're using or rockbox's ata driver.

(a) what make of card is it?  Not all brands work for ipods
(b) try asking on Tarkan's site or on the relevant Head-fi thread
(c) only sync in OF mode (its faster anyway)

What's OF mode?

"OF" is a pretty common acronym on this site (I guess I should 'sticky' a glossary of commonly used terms/phrases/acronyms), it means "Original Firmware".

You can either boot to the OF, or force Disk Mode, for transfer. Generally speaking you should not ever have to do this, and whether or not it is faster or more reliable is vastly dependant on the host environment, but for some people who have been using Rockbox for a very long time - old habits die hard.

Regarding compatibility with any given card, as long as the card is adhering to SD specification both Rockbox and the OF should be able to address it just fine, but it would be disingenuous to suggest that the driver(s) in Rockbox are free of error, and potentially shortsighted to assume that the card is actually strictly adhering to specification.

PNY cards should work fine (i have several), so its not that.

Some other brands are not so compatible (have found that myself)).  According to Tarkan, who tested the issue, (and I don't claim to understand the explanation, just repeating it, probably badly garbled) its something to do with those brand cards not liking the odd sector sizes that ipod from 5.5gen onwards apparently use.  Not that that's relevant anyway, as I've had no trouble with PNY cards.

Yea I had a lot of issues trying to transfer files while on RockBox and eventually figured out that transferring files on the OF is the best way to go.
As soon as I boot in RockBox, that's when all the corrupt files appear. When I boot again in OF, everything is back to normal.

I'm going to try a factory reset on the iPod, doing a clean install of RockBox and reformatting the SD card. Thanks!
