iPod Nano 4GB 1st gen won't open rockbox and isn't recognized by windows
« on: January 15, 2016, 10:28:05 AM »
Hello, guys!

I'm new on the forum so sorry if this ain't the corect place to post it :)

Soooooo, a few monts ago, i decided re-use my iPod Nano 1st gen to listen music while i'm running. so, to avoid the iTunes monogamy, i instaled Rockbox.

And that was amazing!!!! I finnaly can take musics from my friends and keep my musics on!

So a thing happened:

When i go to bed, i lefted my ipod plugged on my notebook, my notebook reiniciated and when i wake up in mornin that screen appeared :

" for disk mode
version: v4.0
IPOD version: 0x000c0006
SST55LD019K-45-C-MWE
Partition 1: 0x0B 7838831 sec'
Loading Rockbox...
lenght: A4294
checksum: 41388AB
Model name: nano
Loading rockbox, ipod:
Error!
Can't load rockbox,ipod:
read failed (image)
Insert USB cable, or hold MENU+SELECT to reboot then SELECT + PLAY
"

Well, windows dont recognizes my ipod in disk mode, or in normal mode. Not even my stereo recognizes it!!!!

I really want to keep using it, don't know why, but there's a sentimental thing.

There's some way to fix it? or i will have to say bye to my 2005 partner? :(

Ps.: Unfortunately i can't afford a new iPod cuz in Brazil the prices are high as ***, so don't make up.

Ps².: Sorry 4 my bad english

The apple disk mode will always work unless the device is physically broken.  Try that

i already tried, but in windows appear the following message when i plug the iPod into PC:

"ok to disconnect" on iPod Screen.

"USB device not recognized" on Windows.

And, on Windows Device Manager, appears "unknown device"

Try a different PC, try again, double check Apple's instructions that you have not made a mistake.

If you're certain you've done everything right, and the emergency disk mode still won't work, then the player is probably broken.

Checked, re-checked, in 3 different computers, and nothing :(

iPod only problem is the battery, which puffed and no longer maintains load.

Well, thinking a little, maybe the iPod started giving problems after the battery passed out...

Can be that?? May the battery is blocking the Rockbox? Because, beyond battery, all the ipod is operating normally.

I'm with the same problem.

My iPod worked well with Rockbox for a while, then my pc restarted when the ipod was connected and bang, don't worked anymore.

After that, seems like the system is corrupted, but until now the only answer i get is: "If you're certain you've done everything right, and the emergency disk mode still won't work, then the player is probably broken."

Which makes no sense, cuz the native (apple) still playing musics.

Still trying fix it, and i will give "UP" to your post, so he can reach the front page.

If the Apple firmware works, then clearly the device isn't broken.  Can you just use the Apple firmware for USB?

Edit:  Also, in the last thread you said you had a Nano 1G, not a 2G.

Well, he plays music as well ,  but the windows don't recognizes it (tested on win10, 8.1, 8, 7, vista).

Not in "apple" mode (when i'm playing music) " ooorrrr in disk mode.

The disk mode say "ok to disconnect" but my computer say "unknow usb device".

i can't understand why the corruption of rockbox files it's blocking the apple firmware operations.

I miss the freedom given by rockbox :(

May a Linux recognize the ipod??

Obs.: by the way, i meaned it, same problem, different devices. thanks for remember

Ok I moved your post into the thread about the 1G.

Anyway, the Apple disk mode on the 1G does not depend on the internal storage or any part of the hardware/software that you can modify.  It will even work with a completely blank storage device, so whatever the problem you're having, it's not due to corruption or something like that.  I'd double check that its not a problem with your PC, the cable you're using, the USB connector on your player, etc.

Well, my iPhone and my iPad don't have any problems with connection, so i imagined that the problem isn't with the PC or the cable.

the USB connector on your player, etc.

Well, i tried to clean that yesterday, and the sad face appeared --' but isn't there anymore. Maybe the problem is with the dock connector, but was working well until  rockbox crash.

I have other 3 cables (2 originals and 1 monster) will try them when get home.

if you have any news about the resolution of the problem with the iPod nano 2g, please update me.
