Sansa Clip+ integration of interal/external storage

I'm not even sure how to ask this question, so was even less sure how to search for answer myself...

If I were to get a clip plus with 2 gigs of storage and add a 16 gig disk, would rockbox simply see 18 gigs of storage?  Or would it see them separately

I'm mainly thinking in terms of playlists.  Could a playlist have songs from both internal and external storage?

The external storage mounts as a folder (<microsd1>) in the root directory of the internal storage.
