Newbie questions

Hi,

I have about 8900 titles (mostly classical) in iTunes, own two iPods, an iPhone, and an iPad, all of which I currently use for music. One iPod interfaces to the car, the other to a clock radio - and both interfaces are Apple smart. So I really don't want to move from iTunes, as limiting as it may be. I'm looking for a way to take my entire library on a lengthy trip, like a cruise.

I just tried using a Fiio X5 and ran into issues with my library, which has many song titles exceeding 250 characters (a classical piece with multiple movements, all in one file) - or with long full path names (artist name field + album title + song title) and gave up and returned it. So now I'm looking at a iPod classic with 240G - which seems to require Rockbox.

Questions:

I see that iTunes Export is available on the Mac to export my playlists and also seems to copy my full library over to the new iPod. It offers three copy modes: flat, iTunes, and playlist - what works best with Rockbox on an iPod? Any reason to choose one over the other?

I had problems with foreign and strange characters (slash, dash, umlauts, accents) on the X5 - how does Rockbox handle those?

How does Rockbox cope with embedded tags for album, song title, and artist names that exceed 250 characters, either individually or as a full path name?

I see that Rockbox builds a database when you tell it - does that mean that moving to different views (playlist, composer, album title, genre) opens quickly? The X5 took 15-20 seconds to move up and down the menu tree?

And does Rockbox handle grouping tags? What if I have multiple (piano, orchestra, flute)?

Thank you very much
