Hello, I'm trying to get this version of RB on my NWZ-44. However, when I try to put the .rockbox file on the system, I get a libmtp error, which I'm guessing is that it won't allow me to make "hidden" directories. Does this make the device un-rockboxable, or is there something I can do?  :-\

I don't have that player, but according to the instructions you aren't supposed to be in MTP mode.
