iPod Classic 160GB slim Windows connectivity issues
« on: October 24, 2015, 03:53:05 AM »
Hello all. I've been using Rockbox on my two iPod classics (7th gen 160gb and modded 240gb) for a couple of years without any issues, on my Windows 7 PC. Recently, I installed some third party software on my pc for another idevice that I think may have affected the driver somehow as it involved the installation of some Apple software. Now, after two years without any issues both the iPods have the following problem: they are recognized normally for about three minutes, after which Windows explorer starts to hang and the iPod drive becomes inaccessible. Chkdsk cannot be run on the drives either and gives me an error when I attempt to do so.

I am running the latest dev build on both of them. I recently picked up a third classic pretty cheap and encountered the same problem after Rockboxing it. I am certain that the issue is with my PC as these iPods work normally on another Windows 10 laptop. So, reformatting the storage partition won't be of much help. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the iPod driver, to no avail.

These issues have rendered transfers to my iPods impossible for a while now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello. This is not a very good solution, but... you can create a portable GNU/Linux distro -USB device-. You can run the OS from the pendrive and move files to the iPods from there.

PD: When I installed RockBox for the first time on my IPod Classic the PC -with Windows 7- ejected it automatically after 5 minutes, more or less. I searched on the emCORE user interface and I changed some values at the Options Menu. That solved my problem (I think ;)).
