Griffin iFM FM Radio Accessory
(1/1)

Okay, I posted this 4 years ago on flyspray, ZERO responses. Maybe it should be posted here instead.
Player: iPod Videl 5th Gen. (5.5)
Rockbox software v. 3.9
Accessory: Griffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPhone and iPod - has a dock connector, short cable to a "dongle" which is the FM tuner, with earphone jack on the dongle. No batteries or other power source.
Here's a link to the product's Amazon page:

Booting into Apple firmware
1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, the "Radio" menu item does not show up. Plugged in the Griffin iFM, the "Radio" menu item shows up, and when I select it, I get the FM frequency and dial, I can tune it, it works. I did not have to download anything at all from the Apple iTunes store.
2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in - the "Radio" menu item shows up, and from there it all works as above.
Booting into Rockbox OS
1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, then plugged the iFM on the dock connector, the "FM Radio" item never shows up.
2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in, still no "FM Radio" on the menu.
3. Went into System then Debug then FM Radio - got message: "HW Detected: no"
So Rockbox does not detect it at all. And there's no sense expecting that any Apple/iTunes software would do anything under Rockbox.
What's interesting is, that with the player off (under both Apple and Rockbox OS), if I only plug in the Griffin iFM to the dock connector, and do nothing else, the player turns on, and boots into RockBox. So there must be some kind of hardware detection there.
Thanks in advance.

It might sound off-putting, but that isn't my intention. Unless you were planning on extensively debugging this and fixing it yourself, I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this issue to be fixed.
That would revolve around someone actually caring about this, and having both sets of hardware (the probable reason as to why the flyspray task got no traction). At the present, the only likely contender for that position is yourself.
EDIT: You are on an _absurdly_ ancient Rockbox version...even if it doesn't fix your issue (it almost assuredly will not), dude, update.

Thanks for the suggestion. Updated yesterday. Under System-Rockbox Info it now reads v.3.13. Is this correct?
I can live with switching to the Apple OS to listen to radio, it would just be nice if I could do it within the Rockbox OS.
Can you point me to a list of compatible FM radio receivers for Rockbox on the iPod Video 5.5? And I hope I have the latest version now.
Thanks!

Thats slightly less ancient, but theres been more improvements since then. If it still doesn't work, try the current build.
