Ipod Classic 5G, Rockbox and Tarkan CF->SD adapter problems
nrq:
Hello,
I have a modded Ipod Classic 5G with Tarkan CF to SD adapter, which I can't get to reliably work as USB device with Rockbox.
So far I have tried transferring files to it on a 2014 13.3" Macbook Pro running OSX Yosemite and on a Zotac ZBox running Debian Stretch. Every time after a couple of seconds the device gets "disconnected", I can't read or write to the filesystem anymore, but on the display Rockbox still says it's connected. When I remove the USB cable Rockbox displays an error message and I have to reboot the device.
The Ipod itself works fine when I connect the original OS to iTunes on the Mac, there are no disconnection issues there, so I assume this might be a problem on the Rockbox side. I already switched off USB HID, played with power off/sleep settings to no avail and also reinstalled a couple of times.
Here comes a bit of speculation: would it be possible that the charging/connected as USB device routine works flaky when there's a CF/SD card adapter connected instead of a HDD, due to the difference in power consumption?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Does it work ok with files you transfer in the Apple firmware but play in rockbox?
My random guess would be some combination of:
1) USB driver bug triggered by different disk hardware
2) ATA driver bug triggered by different disk hardware
3) Adapter expecting that some subset of the ATA commands would be used, or rockbox expecting that some subset of ata commands will not be used

Yes, original firmware works fine with iTunes, only Rockbox has problems transferring.

Yes you said that above, but I was asking about playing in rockbox. Basically, trying to narrow it down to only #1 or #2/3 in the above list.

Oh, sorry, I managed to conveniently miss that last bit. No, actually I haven't tried that yet, but going to do that this evening.
