Sandisk Clip Zip - Sound cuts out when power plugged in
« on: August 17, 2015, 03:12:08 PM »
My previous MP3 player running Rockbox finally started to conk out on me (I mean, I only had it 7.5 years).

So I bought a refurbished Sandisk Clip Zip to replace it, since that seems to be the most recent MP3 player that Rockbox supports.

Installing Rockbox went smoothly, and moving my music over was easy.

But I'm having a weird problem. When I plug the power in, the sound cuts out.

It looks like the song is still playing (at least, the time index is increasing, so it isn't paused), the volume icon on the front seems to still be turned up, but no sound comes out.

I have it set to car adapter mode right now, so if I unplug it, it pauses. But if I then hit the play button, sound comes out fine... until I plug power back in.

Is there a setting wrong somewhere I should look at? Or is something wrong with my new-to-me MP3 player?

(For the record, I primarily use my MP3 player in my car hooked up to my stereo's AUX port and powered by the cigarette lighter port.)

Ground loop probably. The amp seems to shutoff if you overload it, I guess to avoid damage.

You need something that can block DC current on the headphone jack, either a capacitive coupler or isolation transformer.
