archos jukebox recorder V1 digital output not working correctly
« on: August 11, 2015, 02:34:33 PM »
Hi, I have a Archos Jukebox recorder V1.  I would like to use the spdif digital output into a headphone dac or another coax digital source input.  But I don't get sound output.  I get a blip of output when I plug in and when I disconnect, but I don't get a stead stream of output.  I have tried different cables, both stereo and mono.  If I jimmy the cable just right when I plug it in, I can get sound, but after a few seconds I hear static hash and pops.  When I seat the cable completely in the connector, no sound.
I popped open the Jukebox to take a look and saw good solder joints.  I touched them up anyway, but no change.
Is it possible the polarity is incorrect on the digital output, explaining some of my issue?
Googling around the internet I don't see much information about people using the digital output of these devices.  Thanks for your time.

I solved the problem, though not the way I like.  On the back of the board mount side of the digital I/O connector are the three pins for I/O.  The tip is ground.  When I grounded the first ring to the tip I was rewarded with digital output.  I don't know what this will do for digital input recording, but I am not concerned with that for now.
