Installing Rockbox on First Generation iPod Classic and using on an iPod Dock
« on: August 01, 2015, 11:42:06 PM »
Hi All

iPod:
First Generation iPod Classic
Model A1238; Year 2007; Serial ending with YMX
Capacity 160 GB

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodClassicPort
Learn't from above why getting 'may not be an iPod' message because there was no Rockbox bootloader available yet
So I went through the use emCORE instructions even though I would not be able to dual-boot to Apple anymore.
* Success

But then the iPod showed the USB screen when I plugged it into my iPod Dock and I couldn't do anything.
Rockbox useless to me if cannot work in the Dock :-(

Dock:

So I hunted around and found the below:

[Using Rockbox in iPod Dock] * Thanks to Detrick Merz (detrickm)
http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/11504
- Ensure unit is On / Booted
- Plug unit into iPod Dock while holding down the Menu botton at the same time
- Press the Select button to go to the Main Menu from the Shuffle / Repeat Menu
* Success; I hope the above proves useful to somebody.

One little thing now perhaps you can help me with please.
The screen only shows for a short time before going black. A very short time.
Just a little touch of the wheel brings it back but I would like to control this behavior. Perhaps even keeping it on constantly.
How can I please ? What setting ?
[Edit; Fixed the above; See below]
Changing Backlight Settings
Settings > General > Display > LCD Settings:
Backlight : 120 s
Backlight (While Plugged In): On

Also, please reply any other findings / tricks you figured out with using the same model as me and / or if using a iPod Dock.
