Upgrading iRiver H320 - will this hardware work?
« on: July 26, 2015, 02:47:39 PM »
Hello all

Apologies if I shouldn't be opening a new thread for this.

I've found my old H320 at the bottom of the cupboard and would love to upgrade it.  I've spent time lurking around on these forums, and think I've hit upon the right hardware combination (sourcing from amazon.co.uk) to drop in a new hard drive- but before making the investment I'm wondering if it's possible for anyone to conform whether I'm on the right track.

I'd like to drop in this Crucial 500GB hard drive:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00RQA6LFA/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=045QEBJWZXSAVG7QMF05&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=577047927&pf_rd_i=desktop

My understanding is that I'll then need to use an mSATA to ZIF connector:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00S984QJQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437934551&sr=8-1&keywords=msata+to+zif

and finally a ZIF to 50 pin connector:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LGJ3RUE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1437934752&sr=8-3&keywords=zif+to+50+pin+adaptor

Will these parts do the trick?  Any expertise you guys could share would be appreciated.

Cheers

For the ZIF to 50 pin adapter better try this one: http://www.microsatacables.com/40-pin-zif-to-50-pin-1-8-inch-cf-toshiba-hdd-adapter

It was recommended to be by ej0rge:

I didn't have any luck with that style of adapter either. I used one of these successfully:
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-SATA-Cables-Toshiba-Adapter/dp/B009BG1ETA
They are available from various ebay sellers if amazon doesn't work for you.

The crucial SSD may consume more energy than INTEL or SAMSUNG (they seem to be the most economically ones). Try to find out the specifications for your drive. Some others are listed in my thread here (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,50602.0.html).

Good Luck!
