advice on using database for podcasts
(1/1)
Frankenpod:
I have both podcasts and music on one rockbox ipod.
Ideally I'd like the database to recognise the 'type' tag, to separate podcasts, audiobooks and music, but I get that one can work around that by using genre tag instead.
I have all the podcasts tagged with genre "podcast" or "podcast (comedy)" "podcast (science)" etc
But once I select the podcast genre in the database, I then get the podcasts sorted by 'artist', which is not ideal as its mostly a list of names I don't recognise, often the same podcast will be spread over different 'artists', based on who happened to be presenting that particular podcast series that week.
Is there any way to ensure that once you select the genre, it then lists them by 'album', i.e. the podcast's name, as that is much more useful than author. In other words, is there a way to customise the hierarchy?
Or some other way to make podcasts more manageable?
Frankenpod:
...OK, I've gotten part-way there by using the custom database thing, tagnavi_custom.
But I'm struggling to understand the syntax. I now have a custom database menu listing different genres of podcast, but when you select one you get a list of every podcast of that genre listed by episode name, rather than by podcast title.
Anyone have advice how to work with tagnavi customised so as to create the type of heirarchy I want?
How do I use it to create subdirectories of podcasts based on the album name?
Unfortunately I can't get my head around the tagnavi documentation!
I just want a custom menu of podcasts, with submenus for genres, and then for the albums in each genre, with the podcasts by title below that. From the documentation I'm sure that's possible, but can't work out how to do it.
Yeh! Got it working.
Now can dispense with original Ipod firmware entirely!

Since podcasts aren't on albums, I put the podcast title in the album tag. I suppose you could put the title in the artist tag.
