New iPod OS causes battery to drain with RockBox

(1/2) > >>

DaveXS:
I've been converting gen 5.5 iPods to 256 GB with no problems using RockBox.  Until today.  I went to restore an iPod and was told by iTunes that there was a new OS for the iPod.  I tried not to download it but iTunes would not proceed with the restore until I did.  The iPod restored, I installed RockBox and plugged in to charge.  The battery went from partially charged to completely drained.  I've tried several iPods, all the same generation, with the SD card drive as well as the regular hard drive.  In all cases the battery discharged when plugged into a high capacity charger.  If I boot up in the Apple OS they all charge fine.

Did Apple put in a poison pill?  Is there a fix?

saratoga:
The Apple firmware won't have any effect, so thats probably just a coincidence.

But if I understand correctly, you reinstalled rockbox and now you're saying the device doesn't charge?  Try a different charger?

DaveXS:
I've tried three different chargers and three different iPods.  On all the iPods I restored yesterday or today the battery drains with RockBox running, nothing playing, and plugged into a 2.3 Amp charger.  iPods that were restored earlier with the same version of RockBox charge normally.  While I agree that it seems unlikely, it's repeatable.

saratoga:
No idea then.

DaveXS:
Any chance someone else can try to restore an iPod, preferably a fifth generation, to see if you have the problem?
