scary virus or what?
« on: July 07, 2015, 05:26:18 PM »
I'm not sure rockbox is especially the place to address this query  but since this "virus" installed itself in the .rockbox folder i thought i will start here.
After removing my sansa clip+ from a computer i discovered these new files and folders on it in the .rockbox folder:
3 folders named dmaq, dmltq and a folder with 2 'female' symbols(ie. a cross with a circle on top, it wont copy and paste)
and these files:┼@UTIL\.LL, ┼ATA@\.TAD, ┼ATA@A\.TAD, DATA@A\.TAD,
DATA@A\.TAD, DATA@A\.TAD, DATA@A\.TAD, DATA@A\.TAD, LTPAM, nvram, p@util, PMAI@M\.QAL, PMAI@M\ and TAELAT\.AML (some of these files also have a triangle symbol in there name which did not copy)

When i try to open the folders on a windows 8 PC an error appears saying that the address referred to is not on this drive or that the syntax is wrong. similarly a 0x80004005: unspecified error appears when i try to delete it.

However on the DAP itself when i open the folder whit 2 'female' symbols the player returns to the root and if i navigate again to this folder and select it the same happens as if the root is a sub folder. When i tried to delete this folder on the player it began to delete all the contents of the DAP!!!!
And when i open the folders named 'dmaq' and 'dmltq' it seems to automatically open the text viewer with some code.

What is quite scary about this is that this happened after removing my DAP from a PC in a HOSPITAL!!

Any ideas what is going on and how best to resolve it?
Thanks in advance.

Update:after checking file system and reinstalling rockbox all is sorted thanks

I don't think thats a virus.  Its probably just a corrupted file system.  Try checking the file system for errors on your PC.

Thanks for replying.
Just did that and the pc took the whole .rockbox folder and turned it into a file? not sure exactly. either way i now have to reinstall rockbox since now it says "file not found" "plug usb cable" obviously. Which i am now doing.
btw how does a corrupt file system create new files and folders and try to delete all my content?

Still sounds like a corrupted file system to me, not a virus.

Silly question...when you remove the Clip+ from the computer, are you safely ejecting it first?
