Mihail Zenkov:
You can try boot linux from live-dvd. Most developer here use linux - in this os we can get more useful info about device state.
1. Boot linux
2. Open terminal.
3. Run command "dmesg" in terminal.

You should see system reaction on player connection. Something like:
[ 2742.039098] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci
[ 2742.085061] usb-storage 1-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected

Mihail Zenkov:
Try hold select and connect to USB as I mention before. And show dmesg output again. If you still don't have mention [sdb] or [sdc] or some other [sd  (like in my dmesg example) try connect to all usb ports on notebook. Better connect with short usb cable.

while i did this, on the player a white screen appeared:

*PANIC*
usb-drv: EP0 completion while waiting for SETUP

what should i do?

Mihail Zenkov:
Good - player not really bricked. Not sure about *PANIC*. Try again connect player same way. If you have connect without *PANIC* try format it: mkfs.vfat -S 4096 /dev/sdb
You should run this command as root (superuser) - run su (and enter password) before it.
