sansa clip zip wont turn on. help!
« on: May 30, 2015, 06:50:47 AM »
hello friends

i write to ask a solution for my player, the sansa clip zip.
Whenever i start it, it says "loading boot 4.0" and then is just stuck there.
So i press and keep pressing the power button, forcing it to shut down. Then i tried pressing and keep pressing the power button (with the mp3 powered down) where it says:

Loading firmware
Length: 97B60
Checksum: 3BFA9E
Model name: clzp
loading rockbox.

and keeps ""loading"" in reality it does nothing.
what should i do? how can i solve this problem?

thanks everybody who responds, very appreciated.

Reboot into the sandisk firmware and then check the disk for errors and/or reinstall rockbox.  Probably something got corrupted.

Hold left (<<) while turning the player on to accomplish this - in the manual but not always easy to spot if you aren't familiar with it.

i cant boot into the sandisk fimware because when i do, it says "refresing media" and after a while it just shows a static screen. And gets stuck there.

i thought the button combination to access the sandisk firmware was power button+volume down?

update: after a while it didnt even show the

"Loading firmware
Length: 97B60
Checksum: 3BFA9E
Model name: clzp
loading rockbox.

and only showed the "boot 4.0" screen whatever i did, (power on, press and keep pressing power on, connect to pc, power etc.)
An user in the mailing list suggested leaving the player without power for a day.
It did help a little, as of now it shows the the "boot 4.0" if i power it on, and if i keep pressing it shows the code part with the checksum etc.

Still, it wont turn on properly, and i cant access the checkdisk because i cant even access the player.  :-[

When player off - try hold select (middle button) and connect it to usb. Then try check disk for errors or format it and reinstall rockbox.

Your OS show new disk or device after this?

im on win8,
it does get recognized because it makes the "windows device connected" sound and it does appear in the devices, but after a while it says "device not recognized".

i tried again and again, after it says device not recognized, it shows the Loading firmware screen and then an all white screen that says:

*PANIC*
mount: 0

what now?? :-[ ???

i tried with a different pc (still with win8) but the same thing happens:
"the connected device" , it appears on the "device and printers" in control panel, but not in rockbox.

this happens when i connect the player:
- And press the middle button, and it shows the "boot 4.0" screen for a millisecond and then hangs;
- And press the power button, same thing:
- And press the volume down to load the sansa firmware, it shows the sansa icon, loads the animation, then refreshing media, then shows a static screen and is unresponsive.

what now?

You can try boot linux from live-dvd. Most developer here use linux - in this os we can get more useful info about device state.
1. Boot linux
2. Open terminal.
3. Run command "dmesg" in terminal.

You should see system reaction on player connection. Something like:
[ 2742.039098] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci
[ 2742.085061] usb-storage 1-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected

Try hold select and connect to USB as I mention before. And show dmesg output again. If you still don't have mention [sdb] or [sdc] or some other [sd  (like in my dmesg example) try connect to all usb ports on notebook. Better connect with short usb cable.

Good - player not really bricked. Not sure about *PANIC*. Try again connect player same way. If you have connect without *PANIC* try format it: mkfs.vfat -S 4096 /dev/sdb
You should run this command as root (superuser) - run su (and enter password) before it.
