[BrainStorm] DIY Audiophile Rockbox Player (DARP) based on Raspberry Pi Zero

Hi everyone!

At the beginning - thanks for Rockbox, I use it from 2012, first in the Clip Zip, then the iPod 5.5g
Recently, I came up with an idea, namely We can use RPi0 and HiFiBerry, make to this a display and buttons - we have almost all for portable player, We need only a slot for external memory and battery, I working on the rest. The problem is that I am not a programmer and I need to port Rockbox to RPI. We can do it?

Wouldn't it be too large? Maybe there are other, smaller SBCs out there that can be used (preferably one with battery terminals).
But if you can get past that, it can be done. You'll need to deal with HDMI however since it doesn't have a DSI (for video, there is one for camera but no idea if it works with displays) connector. EDIT: It does composite as well apparently.
There's also the power supply problem. Since it only takes USB power, you'll need a separate voltage converter, and charging circuitry. A powerbank does this, but the circuit adds bulk and is ultimately inefficient.
Not sure how good hifiberry is, but it may suffer from interference (from the RPi).
Rockbox can be ported as an app running on some embedded linux.

Also the new RPi0W adds wireless comms, allowing BT and wifi.

Highest grade players are much bigger than this construction and the hifiberry can handle this like real audiophile players.
I looking for something smaller and more energy efficient but i can't find anything for open-source project

Power supply - li-ion cells with own electronics aren't a big problem.

Problem is a os, which takes a huge load on resources without a rockbox app playing a very big, 24bit lossless file :/

Decoding lossless is very easy. Building your own player is not.

RPi0 doesn't have a PMU (that supports Li-ion cells). So you'll have to fit in the charging circuitry and use up a bus on the RPi for metering.
Still, the I/O is rather limited on the RPi0. Something like the Chip Pro might be better.
The hifiberry seems like it'd require a separate amp and Rockbox doesn't do hires anyway.
