Settings with Super Talent Duradrive ZT3 ZIF SSD in iPod 5.5G

(1/1)

Hello

I managed to successfully install a Super Talent Duradrive ZT3 with a ZIF interface and Rockbox into my 5.5G iPod. My question is if I should change any settings (like disk spindown) now that there is no spinning disk anymore.

This patch (http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/469/1) is not in the official build, right? Would it bring any advantages for me, as I have a ZIF SSD? There is an unofficial build from beyondwind (http://beyondwind.duckdns.org/?page_id=5). Would this have any benefit?

Which rockbox version should I use now?

Greetings,

Any suggestions?

wodz:
If your drive works already in stock rb I doubt you will gain anything from g#469 and unofficial build you linked.

cereal_killer:
Thanks for your answer wodz.

I just wondered, if the disk spindown settings would have any effect, as there are some discussions on the forum. Is it safe to manually set disk spindown to 0? See this post: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,25315.msg169667.html#msg169667

What about directory cache?

Yeah, if you don't have problems, do not use http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/469/1 . It will only make things slower. I guess the speed decrease is why that change never got accepted.

Don't worry about the spindown timer. Trying to force 0 may cause unwanted extra drive power cycles. After that period of inactivity, Rockbox puts the drive into a low power mode and if possible on that player cuts drive power. (The 5.5G iPod can cut power.) You're not going to save a significant amount of power shortening that because idle power usage should be low, and the drive spends very little time in that state already. You might want to prolong the timer if the drive takes a long time to become available afterwards, but you didn't mention such a problem.
