Recording level too low on Fuze+

Herbhornist:
When I record the level is so low as to be unusable. This is with the Gain set to maximum, 60 dB, and volume set to maximum, 12 dB. The hardware is OK: recording works fine when I boot up to the Sansa firmware.
What's up?
