Haas Surround missing

(1/2) > >>

Lohnesdj:
I installed the latest stable version of RockBox on a new Sansa Clip Plus and found that the Haas Surround option is missing under Volume settings.  Is this an option that should be there or is this option only for certain device?  Thank you much.

saratoga:
Not in the stable build.

To further clarify, the "stable" release builds are absolutely, totally, massively, and completely ancient.

Unless you are completely happy with everything the release has to offer you, I strongly advise you to update to a current development build.

I put "stable" in quotation marks for the fact that over the past ~2 years (yes, they really are that old), we have changed a lot of the underlying core, squashed a lot of bugs, made certain devices a lot more efficient, and added a lot of additional functionality, both forward facing and 'under the hood'.

At this stage, it is highly likely that for the targets that did have a release build offered, that the development builds are actually better in terms of stability.

Our target classifications are somewhat odd, and users often misinterpret them.

For our purposes, all stable actually means is (as stated on the main page):
"Rockbox runs well on these players, has a complete manual and is supported by the installer"

There's no guarantees of stability noted there, it just meets those criteria. You certainly can, and probably will, still face bugs with a stable target.

Unstable, is listed as:
"Rockbox runs on these players, but is incomplete, less usable or has problems that limit it to advanced users".

Finally, unusable, is listed as:
"Work has begun on porting Rockbox to these players, but much remains before they are usable"

These are all fairly ambiguous, and users often misinterpret their meanings (I am not stating that you have done so, or did so, just stating a generalization) as directly coupling to their dictionary definitions when in fact they certainly do not.

Stable targets aren't necessarily stable.
Unstable targets aren't necessarily unstable.
Unusable targets aren't necessarily unusable.

In conclusion, if you want the latest and greatest features, with what is realistically no additional risk of instability given that our stable builds make no claim to stability either, you should probably be using a development build.
