iriver H120 with SSD upgrade - now starts to stutter

(1/1)

polluxx2006:
Hello there,

for quite a while I was VERY pleased with a KingSpec 128 GB SSD in my iriver H120.
But when time went on and files were copied to the SSD, it seems that the access time increased.
Today, I copied a FLAC file (complete album with cue sheet) and for that album the playback even
"stutters" on rebuffering.
Any idea?

EDIT: I figured out that Operating systems have a function called TRIM for SSDs to prevent the SSD getting slow.

Does rockbox offer such a function?

wodz:
No.

burkjavier:
That Kingspec may not have TRIM support, anyway.  I have the 128GB in my Gigabeat and neither OSX, Win7 or Ubuntu see it as an SSD that can be trimmed.  :(

I haven't had a problem yet, but then again I don't change files too often as this is more of a general player for my archives.  Still, I may need to wipe and reformat every once in a while.

That doesn't mean anything. The gigabeat doesn't do ATA passthrough.

Ive read that secure erase/setting the ssd back to factory defaults VIA USB is (or might in several cases be) not possible,
PLUS its dangerous and can brick your SSD.
So doing this would require connecting the SSD to an internal (IDE, SATA) port of your computer.
