Hi all,
I have a 7g iPod classic running encore and Rockbox. I can't get car adapter mode to work for me. As a matter of fact, when I plug into my car charger it goes into disk / command mode as if it were connected to a computer usb port. It does the same thing when I plug it into a wall charger.

Car adapter mode probably doesn't do what you're assuming:

If you're plugging it into a device that acts as an MSC host, I think you'd have to hold a button when plugging it in to avoid mounting.

Hmmm. Ok my 5.5g iPod it seemed to work the way I wanted. I would have it plugged into a charger and an aux port. When I stopped my car It would pause then shut off. When I started my car, it would turn on and resume. I just want it to turn on automatically when plugged into a usb port. Its fine I'd it goes into disk / command mode. I only mentioned it because my other iPod never when into disk / command mode when plugged into the same charger.

I'm at my wits end. I re-installed RockBox, I re-installed eMcore. All I'm looking to do is get the iPod to turn on when plugged into a USB port or charger. My 5.5g iPod Video works great in this way. I just installed a 256gb SD Card into this slim 7g iPod and I'd really like it to work. I'd hate to have to tear it apart again to put the sd card and adapter into the 5.5g video. Any help is VERY much appreciated!

If you want things to work as they should, picking a device that you can run Rockbox on officially might be a good step.

Sure, we push binaries for it, but the savvy user will notice that we don't provide a bootloader, or any means to install one, and that we quite clearly mark the port as "unusable".

From the main page:

--- Code: ---Unusable ports

Work has begun on porting Rockbox to these players, but much remains before they are usable:
...
 Apple iPod Classic (6G)
...
--- End code ---

I understand this is frustrating for you, and that its not what you're wanting to hear, but from our perspective you can't even boot Rockbox on this device in any official capacity.
