Sansa Fuze Original version 2 rockbox query

(1/1)

sandynator:
Guys, I'm new to this forum & wanted to clear my doubt about rockbox for my sansa fuze V2.

I'm from India & recently got it for approximately 12 USD from one person nearby my locality. It plays fine but the play/pause button is not working.  :(  :'(

Today I upgraded it to latest updated firmware & it seems fine[just not heard how it sounds now].

What I would like to ask you is will I be able to install & use rockbox firmware on my fuze who's play/pause button is not functional?
Is there a way out in rockbox firmware to pause songs in middle?
Is there any important feature/function assigned to play/pause button of sansa fuze V2??
I want it to function properly just for audio playback. I will not be watching videos or playing any games.

Please guide me.

Thanks in Advance. :)

Hello and welcome to our forums sandynator,

Losing the use of the Play/Pause button will certainly present you with some challenges, but it will not render the device completely useless.

If as you stated you will not be utilizing any plugins, then the only functionality you will lose is the obvious ones:

Pause/Play/Stop audio in the WPS  (While Playing Screen)
Mute/Stop FM radio

And a couple of (perhaps) non-obvious ones:

Resuming playback from any of the menu screens
Being able to jump from the WPS back to the last position in the File Browser or Database
Saving file/directory/playlist/FM preset names/etc. names with the virtual keyboard
Setting the time and/or date
...probably quite a few other scenarios I can't think of right now.

Navigation and commencing playback is still possible in your case, but you will not be able to stop or pause playback after it has commenced. You would need to either let playback run its course, or shut down the device, and you would not be able to resume playback unless you used the bookmark on stop feature and resumed playback from the Bookmarks menu.

So, yea, the device is still going to retain most of its functionality, but there are a few scenarios that are going to be potentially awkward, and fewer scenarios that are going to be completely impossible.

Most of those, if not all of them, could be mitigated with a custom build (which either myself or someone else on these forums  {actually, preferably via our #rockbox IRC support channel} would be happy to assist you with) containing custom key mappings.

Unfortunately it is not possible to edit key mapping in Rockbox userland, but this is by design.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask, and once again welcome to our (and your) community.
