Now that the unit is open, try to resit the HD fist and while the player is open turn the it on to see if it will start without problems.

Sometimes resitting the HD will make the trick.
If not try to resolder those parts that Linus said. (though I don't know what to say if you can't reach those joints)

I found this at misticriver:

by jhebert:

"I pulled the entire mainboard out (still connected, just opened up), shot it up with some contact cleaner (DeOxit, the best stuff you can buy, a broadcast engineer once told me) and tried rebooting while gently pressing the USB daughterboard and mainboard together, and viola! It worked! It booted! My baby is *alive*!

So now I face the task of desoldering the whole USB daughterboard (looks like 4 pads and posts, not the tiny multi-pin USB jack itself I originally looked at), shooting a little DeOxit inside the contacts between the two boards, then soldering it back together."

I think he's just talking about my problem.

He wrote nothing new since may this year - so I guess it works for him.

I guess I'll try it that way - fingers crossed !

Re: ata error -11 - solved ? looks like

Problem solved ! (at least I hope so)

After trying to desolve the two boards for half an hour (my equipment is not quite good...) I decided to arise pressure on the connections instead. So i put paper in the void between the boards an the player's casing. Finally I had problems to close the player again *g*.

But it worked.

Now it starts again without any trouble.

Thank you all for your help !

(sorry for resurecting an old thread, but a search on ata error -11 shows that this is the most documented one)

If you look at the USB daughterboard, the connectors that usually come loose are the two 30-pin connectors named J1 and J2. Either they are loose, or their counterparts on the main board.

sorry, but I only found a J1 near the earphones socket. I'm quite new to boards and electronics, but I guess I could check if a onnection is loose or not. so if someone can point me to these J1 J2 J3 and J4 I'd be very grateful

(but wait - we do talk about an H3x0, right ?)

No - this thread is about the H100 iRiver player.

From what I remember the H300 does not have a separate little board for the USB/Hard disk.

Maybe just unplugging and re-connecting the HDD to the connector a the other end of the board may help.

OK, thanks for the clarification. And indeed I couldn't see any daughterboard.

Did that plenty of times, that didn't help. Bought another HD, same problem. I guess something's fried within the motherboard. :((

It might be worth making sure that the connector JP4 is making good contact by re-seating it. It's a flexi connector as can be seen on the picture of H300 board from the Wiki; http://www.lostlogicx.com/images/pics/iriver/p2070014.jpg

well, it's as seated as possible ; re-seating it is not an option as the whole stuff is stuck in place thanks to a metal bar soldered on its both ends.

(and thanks for taking care of my case :) )

iRivers H340 ata error -11
« Reply #23 on: March 17, 2012, 10:32:44 AM »
Hello.
Sorry for my english  :)

I bought H340 with 60Gb HDD.
Then I bought adapter 1.8" IDE to CF, bought Compact Flash 64 Gb SiliconPower
I carefully took off HDD, and installed Adapter.
After power on I saw text on display "Ata error: -11. Insert USB cable and press a button."
I again installed HDD, but text was the same.
I tried start player with iRiver firmware, but it saw no files. I can't format HDD from default firmware.

Computer (under Windows 7) doesn't see the player  :'(

P.S. I hear sound of HDD on start. It is spinning. And I also tried working HDD from 320 iRiver but text is the same when Rockbox is loading.
