ata error -11
hellokytty:
Hi,
I'm have been using rockbox for more than half a year
without any remarkable errors. But since two days everything goes totally wrong.
I guess it started when a friend of mine (no, it wasn'm me) connected the player with his computer (macintosh). Maybe he didn't disconnect it the right way...
All I get when booting into rockbox now is:
"ATA error: -11
Insert usb cable and press a button"
If I do so it is recognised by the computer but that's all.
Booting into the original fw tells me (oh, how I love it)
0000 folders
0000 tracks
.....
you all know that.
I thought about deinstalling rockbox but...
As I now found out the orig fm 1.66 won't let me downgrade or upgrade with a non-patched version of the orig fw.
So this is my problem.
If I let scandisc check the disc all the files are shown again. But another boot with rockbox - and the
0000 folders
0000 tracks
is there again.
Do you think formatting the disc will help ?
Thanks for you ideas !
Road Runner:
If I recall correctly, Ata -11 is a hard disk failure. I suggest you to ask about it on the IRC channel or search it through the wiki.
I've had this problem for time to time. have you opened up your player? could it be a loose h.d connection problem? (btw I don't think it's likely).
formatting / downgrading / anything else won't help. it's a hardware problem. try to run every h.d utility scanning program that there are, other then that, I'm not concentrated enough to be more help :/
hellokitty:
Hi
I did a backup up of my drive and then formattet (fat32). The disk should be empty now. But when I boot the error still appears which suggests that the rockbox bootloader is still active.
I tried up/downgrading with a non-patched version of the original fw. But when I go to GENERAL - FW-UPGRADE and confirm YES it does't start the upgrade. Maybe it's because the 1.66 version doesn't allow downgrading anymore (heard it in the forum).
Also the format-option in the iriver fw does't work. It just says "Can't format".
Can anyone please tell me what I have to care about when I open the player to check the connections ?
Is there any kind of guide ?
Thank you all for further adwise.
whatboutbob:
off the top of my head this is caused by a dodgy hdd connection. I'm pretty sure -11 is the error i was getting when the usb daughterboard needed resoldering.
LinusN:
-11 menas that master_slave_select() failed in the ATA driver. It is usually a symptom of a hardware failure, most likely a bad connection between the USB daughterboard and the mainboard.
