help with installation
« on: June 24, 2006, 01:02:01 AM »
hello all,

i have a archos jukebox 6000 with a 12GB hard drive from an old laptop.  i have formatted the hard drive w/fat32 and downloaded the archos zip file and extracted them and copied it to my archos machine.  so basically the hard drive has the  archos.mod file and .rockbox folder.  i turned on my archos player and i see "rockbox" on my LED which quickly turns into a message that says "no partition".  i have search for answers on the forum and over the internet but is unable to find any information.  could anyone let me know about the following.

1. am i installing rockbox on my player correct?
2. why am i seeing the no partition error?

thanks in advance!

Is the partition set to Primary?
(I'm sorry, I still don't know much about the Archoses, so I won't be _much_ help)

Thank you for your reply.

Actually I didn't partition the hard drive.  I only formatted.  Am I suppose to Partition the hard drive?  And if I am suppose to partition the drive, what do you mean by setting it as primary?  Thanks again!

Yes, you should make sure that your drive has a single partition.

Thank you again for your response.

The thing is I formatted the HD and never partition it.  So it is in single partition and it is the primary drive.  So I am not sure what is the issue.  To double check, single partition means after formatting a HD, you don't need to do anything to it as it is one partition.  Thanks.

No, you can still use a harddrive with no partition at all. That's the so called "superfloppy" mode. Rockbox does not like to be run in superfloppy mode.

thanks again for your help.

sorry with all these question.  how do you set a HD as a a primary drive?
i tried to do that in windows xp disk manager and when i did that i was unable to set it as primary.  then i got another HD and set it as the primary drive and put it in my archos player and it said HD error.  so i am having issues setting one HD as primary and issue with the other HD that i was able to set as primary partition because it gave me "HD error" when my i turn on my player.  thanks.
