Help Installing: Mac OS X & HP iPod
(1/1)
temptemp9:
Hello All-
I am seeking help installing Rockbox on my HP iPod (Mac Extended) used with OS X.
I don't have access to a PC, so was hoping I could do it all on my Mac.
I can follow instructions, but was getting confused by them at:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallationFromMacOSX
Some specifics I got stuck on:
1) Congiguring the drive FAT 32
2) Installing the bootloader
3) Installing Rockbox
When I ran: dd if=mbr-xxxx.bin of=/dev/diskN to "Apply the correct partition table",
I got: "No such file or directory"
I would greatly appreciate help with clear, step by step instructions to get Rockbox on my 4th gen (clickwheel) iPod.
Would it be easier to do on a PC? Currently I don't have access to one -it appears that it can all be done on a Mac...right?
Thanks a bunch!

That's not very specific.... :)

You need to replace the mbr-xxxx.bin in that command with the name of the mbr file you downloaded in the previous step.

Thank you very much for the help with the "mbr-xxxx.bin" command.
I will try again and reply with more specific questions.
Question 1: Can it all be done from my Mac?
Thanks again,

Hello,
I would also like to reformat my ipod mini on my mac (i don't have access to a windows machine) in order to load rockbox. (i've been using rockbox on my iriver for years now and am a devoted fan!).
But........... I'm getting the message "no such file or directory" when I try the command "dd if=mbr-mini2g-4g.bin of=/dev/disk1"
I've got the mbr file in a rockbox folder on my desktop.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
