Clip+ rockbox will not install
« on: December 22, 2014, 07:41:02 PM »
I've been trying to install rockbox to no avail. Its not my first time. I've had success on my clip zip. When I use the installer it doesn't detect automatically. But can be seen on :I in the dropdown box. Everything works as expected but when I restart player I just get the original firmware. I've  done it 3 times verified the correct device and drive letter. I've also done it manually with the same result.

I'm wondering if the firmware version is the problem v1.03.23a. Which is a higher number than the newest firmware I can find. or if the firmware won't update because its locked me out saying expired connect to rhapsody.

There is no clip+ firmware with that version, so either you misread the firmware version or whatever you have is not a clip+.

Googling that firmware version does bring up an update for the Sansa View though.  Does your player have a color screen and a wheel?

Just image searched the view definitely not. I found the same info when I looked. its a blue/yellow only screen says clip+ on the back under the clip  and also detects in windows as same. it has a black front clear back.  I'm getting that number from the settings/system settings/info/version on the menu. Could that be a hardware ID.

Is it one of those locked down prison players?  Iirc most of those were clear plastic and had some custom firmware.

After another google image search. Apparently it is. I didn't know there was such a thing. I guess I just got ripped off on ebay. Thank you for your help. It doesn't look like there is an easy way to deal with these.

There is still possible to install regular OF/rockbox on those devices but it is a bit involved procedure. You'd need to follow http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaAMS#Unbricking.

Hi,
not the same problem but still :

I've done exactly as said in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUFJN65v_4o
each step
installation was complete
I ejected the sansa clip+
and ... no rockbox on my sansa, still the V01.02.18A firmware ...

any idea what I should do (all the procedure was done from a macbookpro) ??

No idea if that video is any good or not, but I usually recommend using our manual.

Most common causes:  selecting the wrong drive to install rockbox to, choosing the wrong version to install.  I'd try again and this time double check that you have everything set right.

I am having a similar problem.  I just received a Sansa Clip Plus in the mail.  It is V01.02.18A.  I am using this link to obtain the original firmware:

http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/clipplus/clipplus01.02.18.zip

and Rockbox Utility v1.4.0.  I have changed the USB connection to MSC.  When I run RockboxUtility.exe on my Windows 7 Computer, the device is detected as "Sansa Sandisk Clip+ (Unknown)," mounted as "I:\(SANSA CLIPP), but every time I get a Network Error reading "Can't get network information.  Network error: Socket operation timed out.  Please check your network and proxy settings."  I don't understand this, because I am connected to the internet.  Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I don't think this is a similar problem at all.

Something on your PC is probably configured wrong, like a firewall, proxy, spyware or whatever and is blocking the installer.   Try disabling any firewalls and such.  Also double check that rockbox utility isn't set to use a proxy or something under it's settings (unlikely though).

I disabled the firewall, but I still get the same error.  What do you mean by "and such?"  In the configuration menu, "no proxy" is selected.

Also, I noticed when looking through the configuration menu that under the TTS & Encoder tab, the TTS Engine reads "configuration INVALID."  I hope this information helps.

It sounds like you've got the utility settings fine.  I would double check that you don't have anything else filtering your internet connections.

Thanks, I just tried another computer and it worked fine.  I find it really complicated to turn off security settings in Windows 7 and Norton.
