file transfer to micro sd / ssd Toshiba f10 and Iaudiox5 micro sd limitations?
« on: December 22, 2014, 02:59:49 PM »
Hi - I'm new at this and am looking for help. I have replaced the Hd's in my Toshiba  F10 and IAudio x5 and have found problems transferring flac and mp3 files from my pc (Windows 7). I am using Micro sd / cf adapter and card
When transferring most of the files move across perfectly but sometimes a file is not there when going to playback.
There is usually an empty file with the right name but no contents.
On one occasion I opened the empty file, selected all the files from my pc and dragged the group across to the empty file. That worked..but the next time it didn't.
The mystery is why do 98% files transfer ok and the rest act weird?
Am I ecpecting too much of the 128 microsd?
Has anyone had this happen to them and whats the solution?
All advice appreciated - there are more questions but this is the biggest issue at the moment.
Thanks for any help in advance!!... need simple instructions how to fix... I'm not a computer guy!

I would try a different SD card adapter.

Thanks for reply - have tried different adapters, diff micro sd's and two players - same problem.
I should have said "empty folder" in last email.
I just don't get it. Latest thing is I transferred some flacs in a folder and 3 or 4 were missing but they show up in playlist and database.
This never happened on a hard drive. I was so thrilled to discover Rockbox I thought it would be good to take advantage of ssd. and longer batt life.
I have found if you drag across multiple folders transfer time is registered as hours and they do not all transfer but doing the transfer individually is about 90seconds per title. The origin of the files makes no difference - mp3, flac... can happen with anything

So I'm not confusing or overloading the ssd / machine....its just some will not transfer. Even when you watch them appear on pc monitor they are not there after process closes!!
This is only a small % but its very weird.

Appreciate your reply and welcome more ideas
Thanks and happy hols

I don't think there is much to get.  The transfer errors out and so the file isn't there.  There isn't much else to it.  Try other hardware until you find a combination that works, or else go back to using normal HD storage.

Thanks Saratoga. I just tried something else..Does this help pinpont the problem?
I opened the Tosh on pc so I could see the Rockbox and Separate music folder.
I moved one of the dodgy folders to the ssd and I can see it in the list which now reads Rockbox
                                                                                                                                            Music
                                                                                                                                           Dodgy Folder
Now the music is on the Micro sd because I can play it on my pc - so it does transfer!
Next I move it internally into the Music folder and guess what? I have the Folder title but the contents are gone..... a bit like hidden files

So it does seem like the hardware is ok but the music vanishes.

I'm hoping this might help you figure it out... its beyond me
Hopefully you will suss it out or I'd be grateful if you could ask around.
Many thanks

You have a one of a kind hardware configuration.  There is no one to ask, its just you.  You can try what I suggested before, and if that doesn't work, you are out of luck.

Yes I think I might be the first to try this. I just wondered if it has happened to  other people on different hardware.
I will try to find another make of cf adapter card - that seems to be the only common factor I can think of.
Don't want to go back to Hd if I don't have to!
Thanks again

I think I have some solutions to the awol files and erratic ssd.  Hopefully this will help anyone else thinking of running their Toshiba F10/20 on Micro sd.

First thing to do is to copy all original Tosh files from HD to SSD assembly
Second Check SSD works like the original HD in Tosh
Third Install Rockbox on auto (manual not always booting up) and make sure you have all  original Tosh Gbsystem files under Rockbox....not inside it.. you may have to put them there manually
Add a "music " folder

Fire up - should work

Next Remove all Gigabeat room and Tosh related files if you have any on your HD
Start transferring Files
Should all be ok - transferring them as standard mp3 files... they transfer at lightning speed. 1 album about 12 seconds
Prior to fixing all this I found transferring them as mp3 files in Media Monkey as default worked (with Gigabeat room still installed) but they take 4/5 times longer to transfer.
Flac files work ok when Gigabeat Room is removed...with Gigabeat room in place some Flacs like mp3 might vanish

This is where I am so far. I hope it remains stable
When I have recovered from this challenge I will do something similiar on the Cowon Iaudio x5!

Merry xmas everyone - guess what I'll be doing xmas day

With this capacity Rockbox is even more awesome! Next challenge is to double capacity with twin sd to cf convertor!!
