Alternatives to Clip Zip ..what next?
« on: September 05, 2014, 01:21:15 PM »
My trusty old Clip Zip(Rockbox) has died so need suggestions for a replacement.

It seems the only model still available is the Clip Sport which doesn't work with Rockbox  :(

I love the Clip Zip, its small and does everything I need, the Sport looks even better with longer battery life and bigger screen..but with no RB it's a bit of deal breaker.

Suggestions?

Clip Zip and Clip+ are still available on ebay. The best deal is a "Manufacturer refurbished" = repaired with new case.

There is simply no replacement for a rockboxed clip+ or clip zip

Amazon usually sells the 8GB zip and + for $30 on black friday. I plan on stocking up on both.

Amazon in the UK is out of stock for the zip & the + screen is too small ..they only have the Sport.

I work for a large online retailer, in our stock system the zip, + & Fuze all have stock re-supply issues & marked as being 'discontinued by manufacturer'.

I see no shortage of new and refurbed clip zips (4 and 8 gig) on Amazon US... a refurb 8gig is around $30... can you get it shipped over there?

As long as SanDisk itself is still selling them, and they are, I don't see any reason to worry.

And even if they stopped selling them *right now*, it'll take years before that decision affects the resale market.

I'm considering buying a refurbished "Sansa Clip Zip" - due to it being a cheap device that, if stolen in the poorer country where I plan to move to, won't represent that much of a loss. And, on eBay, they are right now being sold at a cheap price.

I read here that: "'Manufacturer refurbished' = repaired with new case".

And, what about the battery in refurbished items?

Is it a new one, or the used one (that was sent inside the device to the repair service)?

I have a refurbished model. Looked brand new, I guess the case was new.

No real issues with battery - it's not amazing by any means but the device is tiny and very light so I can't imagine it has a big battery. I haven't tested it but I think it'd last for a good 8-10 hours on a charge. Easy to charge too since it's micro USB.

Well, 8-10 hours of use make it indifferent if it's a used battery or not. :) Since that, that's enough time to hear it all day, during the regular free hours.

Thank you for your response, samwillmorris.

Je... The refurbished models sold out on eBay, within a week. (Too late for me, but I was more inclined to saving the money, anyway...)

It was a good deal that the eBay seller was offering, so I'm not surprised that it happened.

The ones available at Amazon seem to have higher prices now.

There really seems to be a high demand for Sansa models.
