The playlist control file can't be accessed and it does not even exist - what do
« on: December 01, 2014, 12:01:36 PM »
  • Xubuntu 14.04
  • Banshee 2.6.2
I have just installed Rockbox on my e200v1 mp3 player. Everything worked peachy.

So now that I have rebooted the thing and connected it to my PC a couple of times, I just can't seem to get one damn playlist from Banshee to the player. The files get copied, I checked that but I have not figured out how to create/copy the playlist.

The first couple of tries it even gave that "error accessing playlist control file" error, but now it does not appear anymore. But still, no new playlist in the playlist catalogue. What should I do? Any hints would be appreciated.

Just copy the M3U file with the music files and then click on it to play.

Thank you for your reply.

Hm, like how exactly should I do that? I can't do that in Banshee from what I've tried (ctrl + c, right click with mouse doesnt show this option either)

I would like to select the playlist with the sansa player when going for a run actually not using my mouse or anything.

I've never heard of Banshee, but assuming it supports playlists, it probably has a way to save them too.  Check its manual?

Well ok I exported it and the music files should be on the player as well.
Where exactly should I put the .m3u file?
Putting it into .rockbox didn't do the trick, the folder "Playlist Catalogue" is still empty.

I would leave it in the same folder structure as your software creates for it.  Its just a text file with a list of paths.  If you change that structure, relative paths may break.

I don't recall how the playlist catalogue works.  It may or may not show up there.

Well I figured out some non-helpful part of it in the meantime.
If I mark the playlist in Banshee and paste it onto the player, in the MUSIC folder lots of folders with the artists' names get created.
So they files are basically on there, except in folder I can't possibly all put in a playlist. Plus the files are all named by some scheme [track number] - [track title].mp3
Jeez this is getting annoying. How can I get the files from the playlist into the folder...

I too use Banshee Media Player. To make Playlists you want to select the Music "Playlist" on you device. Right-click on the name of your device. click "Create New Playlist" It will automatically be highlighted to be named once you name it hit enter. than click on the "Music" part of the player and search for the songs you want on the player. highlight the songs and drag 'em to the playlist you just created. Once you have all the songs you want on that playlist right-click on the playlist click "Export" Select the Root drive of your player in linux create a folder named Playlists in the root directory and save the m3u playlist into the Playlists folder.

NOTE: you can also create a folder named "Playlists" in the "Music" folder as well.
