Sansa clip + shuts down

Hi,

I have been running rock box on my clip +.  All well for a long time then last week it probably got too wet and since then I can start it up and browse around the menus indefinitely, but if I try to play a podcast it shuts down after 2 or 3 seconds.  Trying with an updated sansa firmware I get the same sort of behaviour but the podcast plays for a bit longer (9s) before shutting down.  Factory reset and latest sansa/rockbox updates made no difference.  Prior to the updates the device would be recognised by my OS when connected via usb but would very quickly shutdown.  Post update the device now stays alive when connected via USB.

Anyway, I'm assuming some hw damage (my fault for choosing the gym rather than a run in the cold but dry outdoors).  I'm wondering if there is a rock box build that I can use which will generate logging to the filesystem so that I can see where it is falling over or if there are any clues on startup?  Otherwise, any other suggestion on a method for fixing?

I would try and dry it more and see if that helps. Probably not a good idea to plug it into usb in this state and do not update the firmware since a crash during install bricks the player.

Let it dry for a week and then retry. You may also have shorted your battery, damaging it in the process. You can replace the battery if you are very skilled with a soldering iron.

Thanks for the replies.  I opened the player to let it dry better and so far no luck.  I now have another clip on order..  In any case I still wonder whats going on here - behaviour is now as follows:

rockbox: boot ok, can browse menus for about 15 s then clip turns off.  I can play about 2s of any mp3 before it turns off.  Can connect/mount via USB but turns off after seconds

sansa: boot ok, can browse menus as long as I like. Can play about 9s of mp3 before it turns off. Can connect/mount via USB indefinitely

Given above behaviour I would expect that battery is not an issue. I read somewhere that an alcohol bath might remove residue - any thoughts?  If so, I suppose this needs to avoid battery?
