Damaged Sansa Fuze+
(1/1)
Day64:
So I picked up a Sansa Fuze+ a week or two back and was quickly annoy by it's control scheme. I read around and found replacing the original firmware with the open source rockbox to be an optimal fix as well as open up a lot of control possibilities that the OF didn't come with.
I used the utility, got it installed, and have enjoyed it happily with absolutely no loss in quality and a much easier time handling the thing.
Just early today however, I decided to add some more music but couldn't find my usual cord. I ended up settling for one I found in an old box which proved to be damaged in some way or another. Not only did it connect and unconnect randomly, only once did the computer actually recognize the device (only for it to disconnect right away). All but one of my 15 or so attempts was met with an "unrecognized device" message.
I eventually gave up after it some how erased the time and date clear off my device and I had to reset it. The music remained with out any issues but, when I went to play and listen to it, I was met with my songs taking a back seat to some noisy scratching noises. Almost like the machine noises a harddrive makes when accessing something. The music was still there, albeit faint, and after resetting the settings to rockbox default, the noises even quieted down and were only noticeable when pushing buttons or changing screens. There's been a dramatic loss in sound quality and I decided very quickly I wasn't about to have that.
After some harder looking, I found my good cord and decided I'd just reinstall rockbox all together or even the OF if I had to. But now, even with my good cord, the device is still completely unrecognized and windows refuses to give me access.
I perused the boards of help, but I seem to be trapped some in weird limbo between bricked and not bricked. My choice of MP3 player is apparently unusual compared to the more commonly used clip, and I've had no luck figuring it out on my own. Is there any method or utility for getting it out of this unusual half-usable limbo?
fennectech:
is it recognised in the OF or bootloader USB mode? and are you able to try it in a different PC
fennectech:
To start the device in OF mode hold vol UP and power at the same time and perform a firmware update that will nuke your rockbox install giving the OF though i cant understand why someone would use the terrable firmware on the fuse plus (yes i know how bad it is as i own the damn thing) but if your having rockbox related issues we might be able to help
another thing i recoment trying is to use a shorter usb cable <1ft sometimes a long cable can be the whole of our problem another possibility is that your fuse plusses usb connecter has broken loose from the PCB if thats the case i recomend loading rockbox or OF onto it and using the port as little as possable im out here chiering for ya hope your fuse comes back to life
Day64:
My computer recognizes neither Rockbox nor the OF when I put it in as a USB. Stranger still, the OF just goes to a black screen in USB mode.
