sansa clip freezes after boot since SD was in phone

ever since I put my 64gb sandisk micro SD into my moto g LTE android my sansa clip freezes immediately after boot (gets to menu screen but can't navigate) requiring soft-reset to regain control.... only happens if SD card is inserted.

I haven't reformatted the card since getting the phone, all music is still on there and works fine in phone.... any ideas as to cause or solution?
