Problems patching the clpza.bin file for Sansa Clip Zip

(1/2) > >>

Michael7:
Hi all,
I'm trying to do as the subject heading says but when I execute the command "mkamsboot.exe clpza.bin  bootloader-clipzip.sansa patched.bin" the PC seems to load up VLC player as .bin files are associated with VLC. How do I unassociate the .bin file so as to create the patched firmware file and get things working? I changed the .bin file to be associated with Imgburn but that only opened up Imgburn when I ran the command. Hope I make sense.

Michael

saratoga:
The file associations don't matter on the command line so you don't need to worry about that.

However, you shouldn't be using mkamsboot.  Rockbox utility will patch the bin file for you.

I have been trying by using the Rockbox Utility with no success :-[  I have used it before with various players and it works well. I have the clipzip in msc mode and have selected the correct drive letter and I can see that Rockbox has installed files but the player is still using the sansa firmware. I can see when looking through previous posts that its frequently a user error. You guys have made it easy with the auto installation utility but I seem to be making a simple procedure difficult.

Are you sure you have a Clip Zip?  Whats the firmware version number on the player?

Michael7:
Yes, its definitely a Clip zip. I can understand why you ask as there doesn't seem to be any way of telling but I have the box it came in and it reads Sansa Clip Zip. The firmware version is V01.01.20F
