Generate menu voice files using TTS engine selected in Rockbox Utility

Hi there,

I recently installed Rockbox on my good old Sansa Clip v1 because its OLED display seems to be failing rapidly and thus I needed something that would provide voice navigation for the menus. However, the clips are rather..err..robotic (for the lack of a better word) and definitely haven't been generated using the TTS engine that I selected in Rockbox Utility v.1.4.0 (I am on Windows so the TTS engine was "SAPI5 TTS Engine" with an English voice named "Microsoft Anna"). I am sure the used engine was different -- if only because the actual clips seem to correspond to a male voice and not a female one.

So, is there a way to force the RB Utility to generate menu voices via the (much more pleasant and much less robotic) Microsoft Anna voice? Some other poster here at this forum previously got a response linking to http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/VoiceBuilding but this seems to me rather a complicated way. I sincerely hope things have changed since then.

I just generated a voice with Rockbox Utility using the IVONA voice without any problem for my sansa clip+. Works fine. Just for case delete a file "english.voice" in your sansa clip and generate your voice again.

I tried to generate the voice file once again and this time it worked. However, for it to be successful I had to set RB Utility UI language to the same one as that I had set for the TTS engine. Who would have thought that UI language can influence this... :-i
