Moving From One Clip Zip To Another
(1/1)
bbildman:
Hi, I just bought another Clip Zip, and simply want to move everything one from the old one to the new one, including operating systems.
Is it possible to simply copy the entire Zip data from one to the other, including EVERYTHING...directories, music and operating system...such that I won't have to start from scratch installing Rockbox and going through checking all all my options again. My original Zip has everything perfect, and I just want to duplicate it, so that after I copy the Zip files I can just turn it on and have it all exactly like my old one??
Thanks for any help

The short answer is "yes". The long answer is "You'll have to install the bootloader"

Ok, that's great. "have to install the bootloader" -- even though the old Zip has it installed already, I figured if I copy everything then the bootloader will also be copied over.
Another question:: if I decide to install manually a new daily build to my already Rockbox enabled Zip player, will I have to go through creating new options, or will the newly enabled daily build already have the old options that I like enabled??
Thanks

The bootloader isn't on the user accessible storage so you can't copy it. If you want to update your build just copy everything over, install the bootloader and then update normally. You won't lose anything.

Thanks so much for the reply.
I just updated my Rockbox to a newest daily build using the Utility, and it's clear all my settings remained (config.cfg) as did my databases. So it seems all is well, the daily build is working perfectly. Now when I receive my newer Clip Zip, I will simply copy ALL the files on the old Zip to the new zip, and then use the Utility to create the bootloader.
GREAT, I love Rockbox, way better than original firmware.
