m4a skipping on Sandisk e260 latest version rockbox
« on: October 06, 2014, 12:52:28 AM »
Sideloaded from streaming radio, playing low bitrate m4a files exhibit the following:

press play
Display stops showing any updates.
All keypresses do nothing immediate.
the track plays about 5 seconds, then pauses.
the track plays about 5 seconds, then pauses.
the track plays about 5 seconds, then pauses.
Along the way, as this process continues, the screen eventually dims in a stepwise function.
Player seems to be unresponsive to any keypress except for long power button press - that MIGHT shutdown the player.
Otherwise, the player will eventually shut itself down by blaming a dead battery. Rebooting the player asap shows battery isn't dead, so possibly the machine isn't checking the battery properly during the problem cycle.
If I let the player shut itself off, and repeat this error cycle a couple times, the case does get warmer than normal. Maybe CPU can't hack the decoding?

This happens with all m4a files I have thrown at it.

Made no obvious setting changes aside from a theme choice and repeat and random playback.

FWIW, these files were all tagged as being encoded by Lavf54.17.100. Maybe that is a clue?

Apologies for the delay in responding.... life got in the way, lost internet access for a bit.

Hope this link works for you, it was fine for me: https://mega.co.nz/#!1doyWb6T!k-IpO_F3Vf3maX9ZskQT6hx3VAYw1YmBZddpHGa-JKA

These files have had their tag data edited (under Linux, using KID3), but the original files acted the same way, so I personally assume the tag segment is irrelevant.

Thats an AAC-HE file.  You'll need a faster CPU if you want to decode one of those.

I presumed the CPU was part of the problem.

Not interested in doing a CPU transplant, so I'll now have to acknowledge the e260 is becoming obsolete technology.

Thanks for the reply!
