Replace the latest Rockbox build image with the one joesomebody linked to earlier.  You may need to use the fallback rockbox image to boot up, then copy the build linked below rather than the generic nightly build as detailed in the emCORE instructions.

Registered only to confirm that I can reproduce the same error ATA Error -2147483542 on an iPod Classic 6.5G black 160GB. As usual, i did a `git pull`, so there were some 6g classic commits, and decided to compile the latest code (as of 14-Dec-2014, rev 0389fd0), and after RB wouldn't boot after the update, I thought maybe there is something bad with my build env, so I grabbed the daily build ZIP from http://www.rockbox.org/dl.cgi?bin=ipod6g, same rev 0389fd0:

I got the same error with the nightly zip.

Reverting rockbox.ipod to my previous version from 20-aug-2014 brought it back to normal.

It is obviously something to do with the recent 6g-related commits.

Hope someone can look into it.

The bug is known and seems to only affect 160GB thick model. Hopefully the issue will be fixed soon.

ok, so i build this linuxbox and got the extracted rockbox in linux. But whatever i do in changing files to older or newer versions, i can't get the ata error go away. Could you please give me the downloadlinks of the files to be changed/reverted?

Think i got it now. You don't have to replace the storage_ata-ipod6g.c file in the build version, but in the main directory.  Though this gives me errors when i get to the make of that file part.

Ok, I downloaded an old version from this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/532426/ipod-classic-rockbox-its-happening/2910 (this one: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b5xbw6cp4ikfxwn/jBMeapJhsP/rockbox-with-patches-a010b7cM-130217.zip), made a backup of the .rockbox folder, deleted it and then pasted the new .rockbox folder into the ipod (from the zip). It works now!! I suppose I'm going to restore the backup and then install a newer version (one I found dates from 2014-08-03) because, well, a newer version is supposed to work better, right?

Just so you all know, I post updates regularly and the newest link is always at the bottom of the readme on the github page. I'm happy to help you guys! Note there's a branch for the SSD converted iPods as well, since tarkan.info sells an adapter. I use the regular builds with my compact flash classic myself.
