Sansa e280 "goes dead" during file transfers

(1/1)

Jarred:
Hi, I'm not sure how to explain it, but basically, many times when I'm transferring music onto my Sansa, out of no where, I'll notice that it just stops transferring, and I'll look at the player itself and it's completely "dead", and I have to unplug it from my PC and press the power button for a long time to get it to come back on, and then I have to reconnect and start the process all over.  First I thought maybe the battery was low, but it does it regardless of how charged up it is--plus, it should be getting power just from being plugged into the PC anyway.  Eventually I'm able to get everything transferred but it can't be normal for it to behave that way.  Any ideas what the problem could be?

saratoga:
You could try using the sandisk firmware to transfer files and see if that works any better.

Blue Dude:
I was going to post this exact problem. My 200v1 got flaky a few weeks ago so I replaced it with a seldom used 200v2 that I had around. Sometimes I can get away with it but it often locks up during file transfers. Pull the USB plug, hard reset, restart, then try again.

Possibly related: the global bookmark file in the .rockbox folder sometimes doesn't save. I can recover the (correctly updated) tmp file with a deleted file utility.

Both problems involve write operations to the flash drive. I am running 3.13 but I'm going to try the latest build to see if it recurs.

BTW, since I'm transferring to a uSD card that's too large for the Sansa firmware, I can't try it out.
