new behavior: track played (from playlist) is not what screen reports it is

Using a Clip Zip with RB 3.13.

As of a couple hours ago, my clip zip suddenly started misbehaving when playing playlists. It progresses thru the entries in the playlist, displaying the track number being played, as it should. Unfortunately the actual audio coming out of it is for some other track, not the one shown on the screen.

part of the display also shows the NEXT track, and the track shown IS NOT the next track in order, but some other track. pressing the "forward" button jumps to what should be the next track, and the display shows the correct track number, but the track being played is the wrong track number that it showed (before clicking the forward button) as the next track.

worse, every playlist I've tried since then is doing the same thing. I've tried at least a half-dozen that I've known to be working in the recent past.

I've plugged in the USB cable and verified the playlists haven't changed and that they list the tracks in order. I've also played individual tracks on my computer, but playing the file stored on the player, and it plays the right audio.

powering it off and back on doesn't help. rebuilding the DB doesn't help.

I'm stumped, anyone got any good clues?

Ah, that was really weird.

but going to SETTINGS / MANAGE SETTINGS / RESET SETTINGS and doing the reset seems to have fixed it.
